For a person to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License or CDL, you must receive a DOT Physical from a certified physician. These special physicals, while easy to go through, can be difficult to schedule with your regular primary care doctor, assuming they are certified to give one in the first place. Finding out your regular doctor is not a certified DOT Physical provider may result in delays in obtaining a CDL or renewing it, which is required every two years. Fortunately, the board-certified doctors at Minit Medical are also fully certified to administer DOT Physicals. No appointment is needed, and all of the required tests and screenings can be processed in a single visit with our onsite, state of the art lab. Minit Medical has two convenient nearby locations that are open seven days a week!
Employers, do your employees require CDLs to work for you? Send new hires or those who need renewals to our facility with no appointment needed. Our experienced medical staff will get them in and out with a completed physical after a thorough medical exam. We will alert you if any issues come up during the examination. Consider opening a corporate account with us to facilitate future visits.
Typically, a DOT Physical at Minit Medical will include:
- An eye exam – 20/40 acuity in each eye is needed
- A hearing test – Able to hear a “forced whisper” at a distance of 5 feet.
- A drug and alcohol screening
- Current blood pressure and pulse.
Please bring glasses, contact lenses, or hearing aids if needed. We will also review your medical history to look for any possible medical conditions that may endanger your safety including:
- High blood pressure
- Heart disorder
- Lung, Kidney, or Liver problems.
- Respiratory issues
Assuming everything in your medical history is fine, and no positive test results come back from our lab, you will be finished with your DOT Physical. If there are concerns, we may recommend you visit with your primary care provider to assist with the management of any chronic, long-term conditions. Our doctor and our staff will go over with you in detail if there are any reasons we cannot issue a clean bill of health for your DOT Physical. We can send a report of our findings to your regular doctor upon request and will send you home with a copy as well.
